ResolutionThe Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority Board of Directors recently developed an “Independence Resolution” emphasizing the provisions of Act 13, 2002 (MCARE Act) that established the independence of the Patient Safety Authority for learning and educational purposes. The resolution is in response to Governor Corbett’s proposed fiscal budget for 2012-13 that calls for the Patient Safety Authority to be merged under the Department of Health. Act 52Act 52 of 2007 requires certain healthcare facilities in Pennsylvania to report healthcare associated infections to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Healthcare Cost Containment Council and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
